Martha was left a widow with 4 small children. Book L., page 457, Montgomery County Court records, October, 1849, Term notes that W.C. Batson, M. Trotter, and T.H. Batson were appointed guardians for Thomas Matthews’ monor heirs--Elizabeth Jane, susan R., Martha Ann, and Rebecca Maria.
In later years Marth Batson Matthews gave up her own home to keep house for her mother and brother William Curry Batson.
Thomas and two infants who died Mary, E. and Thomas Batson Matthews-- are buried in a Matthews Cemetery, District 16, on rock Springs road at Southside, about 1/2 mile from Cheatham County line on north side of the road.631
